ICLW- What a great idea!

I'm really enjoying ICLW, I'm discovering so many lovely blogs and kind people. Thank you all for visiting and for your comments! As you can see, my blog is still in its very early stages, but I have a lot to say so it should fill up with posts quickly!

This weekend is shaping up nicely. We took the dogs for a nice walk this morning and now I'm working on the laundry (vacation generates a lot of laundry, especially vacation in a hot and humid place!) and settling back in. On Thursday evening my husband's parents arrived for a visit, so the house is a bit louder and more chaotic than usual. They drive up from the deep south- which takes them about a week- so they stay for several weeks at a time. His dad is working on yard projects and such already, which is wonderful!

What are you reading lately? I'm getting three books from the library today and looking forward to them: American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld, Schooled by Anisha Lakhani and Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Last week on vacation I read This Charming Man by Marian Keyes and The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. This Charming Man was much more intense than other Marian Keyes novels I've read, but definitely a page-turner and in some ways an eye-opener. It deals with domestic violence which I haven't encountered much in fiction. I loved the Secret Life of Bees for so many reasons, but especially for the wonderful community of women and the rich depiction of life in the south.

  1. hey Enna, thank you for stopping by my blog. your summer reading list looks great, it makes me want to start my own list. i'm looking forward to finally reading Toni Morrison's A Mercy. i need to finish Yvette Christianse's Unconfessed. I'll be visiting my mom soon, and she always has a stack of poolside reads--mysteries are my favorite for that--that i can borrow/steal!

  4. Gina- I haven't seen the movie yet either! I'm looking forward to it though. I like John Irving, I'll check out Hotel New Hampshire!

    Jenny- Really? Whatever works for you I guess, but we have a great library system here and it's also nice that it is absolutely free and I love that when I'm finished with a book I don't have to find a place to store it- my husband and I have walls and walls of bookshelves already full, so we have to be a bit careful with buying more!

  5. I've got three books on the go at the moment... which says something about me;
    1. Rough guide to Sri Lanka
    2. Angels & Demons - which I wanted to re-read before seeing the film.
    3. An Utterly Impartial History of Britain - which covers British History in a way I was never taught at school.

    I love my local library - it feeds my book habit!

  6. Sounds like you're having a wonderful weekend! I am in between books at the moment, but have IF on the brain. I just read Mel's book Navigating the Land of IF and plan on reading another infertility book (Waiting for Daisy) next. Maybe I should branch out from IF, lol :)

  9. Fabulous book recommendations! I'm currently reading "The Forgotten Garden" by Kate Morton. She's a fabulous author who likes to interweave her characters past and present.

    Happy ICLW!

  12. Thank you for your note on my blog. Having the parents around to help with house things is great! Hope you enjoy your in-laws. Mine would drive me crazy if they stayed for too long at our house.
    I am in love with the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. You have to start from the beginning (there are 7 books so far) and you won't want to put them down. I'm on the 5th book.
